Josh Weathers Band

Sounds Like: the soundtrack to a western bar fight.

My good friend Matt Gandy was surfing the intertubes today when this sickeningly soulful music began wafting from his speakers. Low and behold we soon discovered The Josh Weathers Band is composed of four men with incredible ability from Fort Worth, TX. All the members of the band obviously have several years of experience under their belts and Josh Weathers fits the bill as lead flawlessly. After scouring over hundreds of artist's websites I've come across a few with really talented musicians; they play the guitar, drums, piano, bass, violin, banjo, kazoo, accordion, pipe organ, whatever, really well. But just as I'm about to declare another Soundsuck victory my ears are assaulted with what these bands call singing. It makes me cringe just thinking about the wasted efforts of the entire band simply because their lead singer sucks so bad that they will never get anywhere. Not so with The Josh Weathers Band, Josh's vocal prowess compliments the band's playing style so well that it makes you think "these vocals were made for this song."

Why They Don't Suck: In a lot of ways this band reminds me of The White Stripes; some would say I'm making too much of a stretch. Artistic style aside, when four members of a band work so well together that it makes you think they could have been separated from birth you know you're on to something good.

  1. While I don't know about The White Stripes reference, I agree, the Josh Weathers Band definitely does not suck. I've had the pleasure of listening to them play for awhile now, and from the first note I heard I knew they were the stuff bands should be made of. Not only are they a bundle of tremendous musical talent, but they're also a band of incredibly down-to-earth, all-around great guys. It's not often that you get such a unique package. So listen up and listen good... the Josh Weathers Band is undeniably refreshing.

I little bird told me they're about to release a new CD soon. Everyone should check it out...

  2. I work with the bass guitarist Kevin. When he 1st started on he mentioned to me he was in a band. I was like oh sure I have known many people in bands. I was not expecting much when he gave me a few songs of theirs to listen to one day. I was blown away to say the least. I wanted more. I purchased their 1st album from him as soon as I could. And started going to their shows when I was able. These guys don’t just sound good on CD but they are awesome Live as well. They work the crowd and the crowd loves them. They love to mingle with the people in the crowd when not on stage as well. Great bunch of Guys… I might have heard from a little bird as well of a new album coming. Check them out!!!

  3. The JWB is amzaing! As stated above not only is the music great, but the live show is where it's at! This group of guys just mesh so well and their energy goes right to the crowd. From what I was told the new CD will be coming out in Feb. so everyone keep an eye out for it.

  4. Aside from their obvious talent and well-rounded influence, what makes the JWB special is the electricity they bring to a live crowd. Rarely have I seen a front man with so much on-stage chemistry that he can turn a wedding reception gig into an all-out raucous party.

I've been fortunate to see they guys play in all different sorts of venues, from the backyard to the big stage, and they never disappoint. Musicians are a dime a dozen, but these guys are truly entertainers.

  7. JWB has a sound that puts them above the average bands. The live show makes you want more and more is what they give you. The guitar sings along with the lyrics in every song. They are a band of today, tomorrow, forever. Check them out. If music makes you high, JWB is the ultimate drug of use.

  8. How could you not love JWB? I was a fan the instant I heard them. From the time when they could make any cover song their own AND sound better (gotta hear Josh sing "let's get it on"!!) to the amazing original music they are now known for, you are simply blown away at every gig. The lyrics and soulful sounds of song's like Mind, Body & Soul, Maria and I am Blessed give me chills every time. The impulsive hand-clapping, foot-stomping power of songs like I Try and Welcome to the Country (which is unlike anything country I know of) make it impossible to stay in your seat. I can't wait til the CD release party on the 15th!

  9. I couldn't agree more...but maybe I will...this band of guys are truly remarkable. Any number of their tunes could be on the air waves next to the best out there. They deserve to be heard by all who really "GET" what music is all about!

  10. I was around the studio when these cats recorded their latest record and I was totally blown away! I've listened to them before, but the chemistry on this new record is awesome. They have fun, which apparently is lacking in the music recording these days.

  11. It's so awesome to see something recognized that is so very real and wonderful. Josh has talent that needs very little production. He never ceases to give me chills. I am an unabashed uber fan.

I hope many more people get to experience this band.
